The Mississippi Gateway Regional Park Redevelopment project was a comprehensive transformation of the former Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park and the Brooklyn Park Environmental Nature Area. The project created a unified and modern regional park featuring a new multi-use Gateway Center, an elevated Treetop Trail, expanded nature play areas, improved fishing and river access, new trails, and updated picnic and recreation zones. The redesigned visitor center was built with classrooms, interpretive exhibits, community artwork, and large observation windows to highlight views of the Mississippi River. The redevelopment also included paved trail networks, improved parking, and new dog off-leash and archery areas to enhance year-round experiences for visitors.

H+U Construction supported the delivery of the redesigned park, which required coordinated phasing to maintain portions of the park’s accessibility during construction. The master plan developed by WSB guided the redesign to ensure that the project exceeded sustainability goals, respected natural river bluff setbacks, and strengthened the regional trail system. With new facilities now open to the public, the park has become a more welcoming and inclusive destination where visitors can explore nature, learn about the river ecosystem, and enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities throughout the year.
