Top Projects of 2022: Newport City Hall, Fire + Police Station

The City of Newport has completed its new $7.2 million City Hall and Public Safety Building, replacing two outdated facilities that were nearly seven decades old. The new two‑story building brings fire services, law enforcement, and city administration together at 2060 1st Ave. and includes a 10‑bay fire station, dedicated firefighter training spaces, offices for Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies, a secure evidence room, council chambers, and expanded city offices and records storage.

A major component of the project was a site reconfiguration that moved the new facility to the north side of the property, creating a strong civic presence at the community’s gateway. Architectural features such as a multistory glass atrium and stone wing‑walls highlight the entry, while an underground stormwater system beneath the parking lot meets environmental requirements without needing a traditional retention pond. City leaders say the new building significantly improves service delivery, operational flow, and long‑term efficiency; positioning the facility to serve Newport for the next century.
