Crews unearth riverfront history as part of Water Works project in Minneapolis

Now, an overhaul of the riverfront will recognize the history of both the city’s milling district and its indigenous people. Crews unearth riverfront history as part of Water Works project in Mpls. Posing with golden shovels in front of the recently unearthed mill ruins, city officials Wednesday celebrated the groundbreaking of Water Works, a $20 million redevelopment just west of the Stone Arch Bridge. The long-awaited project will bring new public features to the riverfront, including a two-story pavilion, a plaza and a restaurant serving native dishes.

City leaders break ground on Water Works project in downtown Minneapolis

Even though construction has been underway for a month, city leaders officially broke ground Wednesday on the expansion of Mill Ruins Park adjacent to downtown Minneapolis. The Water Works project, as it’s being called, will transform the riverfront near the Stone Arch Bridge to include a new pavilion, restaurant and plaza.

‘Sioux Chef’ eatery, historic mills to anchor new Mpls. riverfront project

Some of Minneapolis’s oldest grain mills will get a new lease on life as construction kicks off on a riverside park pavilion, the latest step in the city’s ongoing riverfront development. The $30 million, 5-acre Water Works project will sit just upstream Avenue. Plans include a two-story pavilion with a restaurant, public lounge and meeting room.
